About MFTFinder

We believe everyone deserves access to qualified, compassionate mental health support. MFTFinder was built to make finding the right therapist simple, fast, and trustworthy.

Making Mental Health Support Accessible to Everyone

We built MFTFinder because we saw a real and frustrating gap: millions of people needed mental health support but had no straightforward way to find a therapist who was the right fit. Online searches return pages of ads, directories of unverified listings, and no clear path forward. We wanted to change that — to build something that actually serves the person sitting in a moment of need.

We believe that therapy works — when people can find the right therapist. Marriage and Family Therapists are uniquely trained in the relational and systemic forces that shape our lives. They work with couples navigating conflict, families in crisis, teens struggling with identity, and individuals carrying wounds from their histories. Their training is rigorous, their licensure is demanding, and their impact is measurable. We built MFTFinder to honor that expertise and connect it to the people who need it.

Searching for a therapist should never be a barrier to getting one. We stand for a world where geography, language, insurance status, or a lack of information doesn't prevent someone from taking the first step toward healing. MFTFinder is free to search, built with care, and designed with dignity for everyone who uses it.

Finding Help Shouldn't Feel Like a Maze

MFTFinder was founded with a straightforward belief: the experience of finding a therapist should feel like relief, not another burden. Too many people arrive at that moment of readiness — ready to ask for help — and find themselves lost in outdated listings, unresponsive directories, and confusing credential terminology.

Our founders came from backgrounds in healthcare advocacy and technology, and they shared a personal understanding of how hard it can be to navigate the mental health system without a guide. One had spent months trying to find a couples therapist who accepted their insurance and spoke their language. Another had watched a family member struggle to locate a qualified child therapist in their area. Those experiences became the blueprint.

MFTFinder aggregates and manually verifies licensure data from state licensing boards across all 50 states. We cross-reference credentials, update listings regularly, and work directly with licensed MFTs to ensure their profiles are complete and accurate. The result is the most comprehensive, trustworthy directory of Marriage and Family Therapists available online.

Built with Purpose, Not Just Traffic

There are other directories out there. Here's why MFTFinder is different — and why it matters.

Verified Licensed Therapists Only

Every therapist listed on MFTFinder holds an active state license. We verify credentials against official licensing board data and do not list unlicensed or unverified practitioners under any circumstances. Your trust is not something we take lightly.

Comprehensive Search Filters

Find therapists by specialty, insurance accepted, therapy modality, language spoken, session format (in-person or telehealth), and more. Our filters are built around how people actually search for care — not how directories want to organize it.

Built for the MFT Profession

We understand the unique training, licensure pathway, and clinical expertise of Marriage and Family Therapists. Our directory is purpose-built for MFTs — not a catch-all mental health listing site where MFTs are buried alongside wellness coaches and life coaches.

Free for Those Seeking Help

Searching for a therapist on MFTFinder is always free. We will never put a paywall between a person in need and the help they're looking for. Our business model supports therapists — never the people who are trying to find them.

What We Stand For

Trust

Every listing on MFTFinder is a licensed professional. We don't cut corners on credential verification, and we don't allow unverified practitioners on the platform. When you find a therapist here, you can be confident in their qualifications.

Inclusion

We actively work to represent therapists from diverse backgrounds — across race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, language, and religious affiliation. Everyone deserves to find a therapist who reflects and understands their world.

Access

Mental health support should be easy to find, not hidden behind paywalls, confusing language, or broken search tools. We design every part of MFTFinder to reduce friction and bring people closer to the care they need — without barriers.

Built by People Who Care

MFTFinder is built by a dedicated team of healthcare advocates, technologists, and mental health supporters. We don't come from a background of building ad-driven directories — we come from a background of actually needing to find good care, and knowing how hard it can be.

Our team brings together experience in healthcare product design, clinical mental health policy, and consumer technology. We are guided by a commitment to getting this right — which means listening to both therapists and the people who seek them out.

Clinical Advisory

Licensed MFTs with expertise in couples therapy, family systems, and trauma treatment inform our specialty taxonomy and content.

Policy & Licensure

Healthcare policy professionals ensure our credential verification standards are aligned with current state licensing requirements across all 50 states.
